On Monday, November 13th at 7 pm is opened the exhibition of prints of Slovak artist Albín Brunovský,painter, prinkmaker and illustrator.
Albin Brunovski, born in former Czechoslovakia, is one of the eminent artist in the twentieth century, widely known as master of small graphic forms.
He had dozens of solo exhibitions, participated at hundreds international Biennales (Ljubljana, Krakow, Frehen, Varna…) and got many awards.
His artistic imagination is based on surreal and fantastic elements, and influences of old masters from 15. and 16. century are also recognizable. He is the author of many exlibris prints rich in expressions, and in which he successfully conceptualized and visualized person who ordered the exlibris, but at the same time, he created independent artistic-graphic form.
A part of this iconography can be recognized as dreams, apocalyptic visions of Bacchanalia, imagined cities, sea and ships, man and women – the main characters
of this fictitious happiness of Babylon’s and other towers. His work is characterized by details, perfection of graphic skill and meticulousness. Like renaissance printmakers, working on copper plate, he used magnifying glass.
Brunovski had four solo exhibitions in Belgrade; 1984. at Grafički kolektiv Gallery, where his works were also presented in 1995. within international exhibition World of exlibris. Motive for a new Belgrade exhibition of Albin Brunovski is a special hommage to this artist, and an opportunity for public to see his prints again. Also, it is 20 years since he died.
Exposed prints are from private collections.
Albín Brunovský (1935. Zohor - 1997. Bratislava, Slovakia) graduated (1961) and postgraduated (1966) from Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava, where he was chief and professor at Department of book illustration.
He had solo exhibitions in Czechoslovakia, Germany, France, Switzerland, Poland, Yugoslavia. From 1962. to 1997. he participated at hundreds international Biennales (Ljubljana, Krakow, Frehen, Varna…) and got many awards; some of those are Award of honorary and national artist. His works are in museums and private collections all over the Europe and SAD.
