Critical Mass

40 prints & 40 authors

August 4 - 16, 2014

On Monday, August 4th an international print exhibition "Critical Mass" was open.

Critical Mass is a portfolio of forty international artists featured in Richard Noyce’s popular books, Printmaking at the Edge and Printmaking Beyond the Edge. The portfolio explores the evolving techniques and approaches, strategies and materials, being used in and with contemporary print forms. It’s a project by artist-explorers who get their hands dirty: with ink and metal and stone, with politics and pop culture and personages, and in the bits, bytes and code of new technologies. They cross borders into new forms in thinking, making, and collaborating. This portfolio is a snapshot of contemporary print: as process, as form, and as thought.

The portfolio as a whole premiered at Southern Graphics Conference International 2013 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and continues to travel thereafter. The artists that participating are: Rebecca Beardmore, Scott Betz, Alicia Candiani, Wayne Eastcott, Chiara Giorgetti, Joan Hall, Christina Hallstrom, Anne Heyvaert, Helene Horalkova, Noaji Ishiyama, Brian Jones, Bodo Korsig, Dorothy Krause, Mirta Kupferminic, Leoni Lane, Michael Schneider, Richard Noyce, Michael Reed, Brian Reeves, Lina Rica, Xenofon Sachinis, Ruta Spelskyte, Jelene Sredanovic, Amy Sterly, Patricia Villalobos, Michael Wegerer, Klavs Weiss, Pete Williams, Barbara Zeigler, Maria Parolin, John Hitchcock, Adriane Herman, Marjan Eggermont, Liz Ingram, Lisa Bulawsky, Ardan Ozmenoglu, Jessica Meuninck-Ganger, Nathaniel Stern, Joscelyn Gardner, Phillip Garrett, Valgerdur Hauksdottir, Sandy Sykes, Ketutis Vasiliunas, and Suzuki Michiko.
