Ljiljana Stojanović, The Strength of Lines, 2019, linocut
Jury’s statement
Ljiljana Stojanović, painter and printmaker, has been active for more than three decades on the contemporary printmaking scene. The author belongs to the spiritual brotherhood of Belgrade’s printmaking scene and has a status of an artist who is devoted to this media. With her recognizable manuscript and sensitivity for the material and matter of prints, the artist confirms her superior mastership in execution of the idea. During her previous work, Ljiljana Stojanović has been on a road from figuration, abstract and associative forms, to the simplification and reduction of forms with a sonorous energy of the line which can be noticed also in her awarded print, The strength of a line. Dynamic composition is structured with a linear web of powerful, fragmented flows, which are accented by the form and color of one expressive vertical line. One of many qualities of this print is the well-established relationship between the linocut technique, composition and the noble texture of paper, which is a peculiarity of the author.
Ljiljana Stojanović (Ljubljana, 1955). graduated printmaking in 1979. at the Faculty of Applied Arts in Belgrade, and finished her postgraduate studies of printmaking in 1982. at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Belgrade.
