Branimir Karanović had two exhibitions of artistic photography Portraits of Belgrade’s artists, in 1975. and in 1985. Those photos are documenting portraits of artists, contemporaries; 36 and 38 portraits, some of them are Stojan Celic, Radenko Misevic, Dusko Ristic, Matija Vukovic, Zivka Pajic; Ljubica Sokic, Nedeljko Gvozdenovic, Pavle Vasic, Pedja Milosavljevic, Mihajlo Petrov, Mica Popovic, Stevan Knezevic, Petar Omcikus. Professor Kazic wrote that portraits clearly depict how photography intertwines with imagination and document. And how the photographic portrait is the result of realisation of one artistic idea, but how much is the product of the functioning of one optical mechanism... The author of these photos was led by a strong and certainly oriented instinct.

Branimir Karanović is creating parallely in domain of graphic arts and photography, with the respect to their specific media features. He made photography an essential element of the new graphic expressiveness. In the beginning, he was using foto-template (1974) but, later on, clear photographic reality refined with graphic tools (raster, solarization, positive-negative). He builds composition in the principle of total-detail, obvious feature of an image typical for massive visual communication. Motives are from everyday visual sensations, figure and landscape, in which the surreal poetics of space are accomplished.
